Physical Education
Grand Blanc
I have a minor in Physical Education. When I returned from school/work/living in Georgia, I was fortunate enough to be offered a long term sub position in P.E. I was at Grand Blanc Middle School East teaching sixth and seventh grade. There I saw the kids two to three times a week for the entire school year. I taught them a variety of games, both traditional and non-traditional. Some traditional games we played were soccer, basketball, football, kickball, softball. Some non-traditional games we played were ultimate frisbee, bowling, fitness, handball, and badminton. I loved
it so much that when they asked me to do another long term sub position at the other Grand Blanc Middle School, I was thrilled! I worked at GBMSW for almost two full years. The teacher I was subbing for, Ms. Gentile, had had hip replacement surgery. While very much interested in replacing Ms. Gentile, it was just not the right time for me to become a Bobcat... Yet.
ULTIMATE FRISBEE
My favorite sport to teach is Ultimate Frisbee. I like to teach this unit first. It is a very unique game because there are never any referees. I love it because it teaches kids sportsmanship, cooperation, and problem solving skills.

Center Academy
I started working at Center Academy Flint in August 2009 and am still there. I really love teaching at Center. My favorite part of working here is that i get to work with kids of all ages. I see kindergarten through eighth grade students. I had missed working with the little kids and still enjoy working with the older kids. Kindergarten and first graders work largely with their gross motor skills and fine motor skills. We practice running, skipping, catching, throwing, etc. Second through fifth graders continue working on gross and fine motor skills. They spend a large part of their time in P.E. working on the Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge. We pretest, practice, and post test each of the five skills. The kids look forward to this and love to participate in such an honorable program. Sixth through Eighth grades work on a variety of games similar to the games I mentioned above. They also participate in the PPFT. I implement health whenever I possibly can. I only see the kids once or maybe twice a week for 45 minutes. The elementary kids usually spend the first five minutes with me reading a chapter book about germs, the food pyramid, etc. Then we talk for a minute and get started on the more physical portion of the lesson. In the middle school we spend a little more time on health.

Let's Move
The First Lady, Michelle Obama, has put together a program to help raise a healthier generation of kids. Lets Move is a great source of facts and information regarding physical education and health programs and why they are necessary at our schools. |

Six Weeks to Wellness Guide
Here is a simple way to make yourself feel healthier in just six weeks. Just follow the guide rules and become less tired, more relaxed, and lose a few pounds. It can be done as an individual, but it can also be done with a group. Sometimes it is fun to keep each other accountable! I have even seen it turned into a work competition!
